West Fifth Street is one of the main streets into Austin and it is undergoing an extensive revitalization. This area in the past was a collection of car lots, warehouses, parking lots and a small number of restaurants. Currently it is being transformed into a buzzing center of activity that is the trademark of Austin living. Before the end of next year this area will boast more than 300 apartments with new retail stores, commercial real estate and an office project.
The revitalization is due to the increased energy brought to West Fifth Street by the Whole Foods Market flagship store that is located just down the road at Lamar and Sixth Street. With more than 48,000 cars commuting from MoPac onto West Fifth Street each morning it is easy to see why residential and commercial interest has been piqued.
