The Harry Ransom Center

The Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas at Austin is a champion of the arts and humanities.  It houses extensive collections of rare books, manuscripts, photographs, film and performing arts.

The permanent collection includes the original Gutenberg Bible from Mainz, Germany 1450 and The First Photograph developed by Joseph Nicephore Niepce in 1826.  Other highlights of the permanent collection the Earle Stanley Gardner’s Study; a replica of the "Perry Mason" mystery writer Eric Stanley Dardner’s study, and an on-going exhibition that details the center’s own history.

The Harry Ransom Center will be hosting some intriguing and thought-provoking exhibitions coming later in the year.  For example, in April the University hosts a large conference on El Salvadore. In partnership with the University, the Center will present the photography exhibition Inside El Salvador accompanied by text written by Carlyn Forche.

In September, visitors to the center will also be able to view The Mystique of the Archive and A Cabinet of Drawings:Selections from Across the Collections.
