Each year the Milken Institute compiles a list of Best-Performing Cities, examining 200 cities in the US and ranking them in the order the institute sees fit. This year Austin is in 4th place on the list, a list where it has remained in a high position over the past few years. Four out of the top five cities on the list of best performing cities of 2011 are in Texas. Fort Collins and Loveland, Colorado are in the number three position.

A report by On Numbers demonstrates that in 2009, the beginning of the recession was in 2007, the majority of major US cities lost business. It is worthy to note as well that the three cities that added new business were all located in Texas!
