According to a new study by PricewaterhouseCoopers and the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA), as presented in the Austin Business Journal, the investment dollar in Austin grew 178% over the last ten years. New Mexico came in first, though the study did not break down the state into individual areas.

Venture capitalists are teams of investors who make a cash investment in exchange for shares of the business. It can be considered a high-risk investment, but with numbers and standings like Austin’s, maybe not!

Texas to fare better than most states during expected 2008 economic upheaval

According to a new article in the Austin Business Journal, the state of Texas is expected to weather the projected economic storm. Southwest Economy, the publication of the Reserve Bank of Dallas, has published forecasts for slower growth than in previous years. The key, however, is that there is still growth.

The relatively low cost of living, job growth, and energy prices are cited as key pieces to the Texas economic puzzle.

High job vacancy to resident ratio means ample opportunity for career growth

A recent study reported in the Austin Business Journal rates Austin as one of the top metropolitan areas for online job advertisements. Nationally, the average was 2.3 advertised vacancies per every 100 empoyable people. However, in Austin the average jumped to 5.07 per 100. The average was just below Milwaukee and San Jose, making Austin third in the areas researched.

The number of online jobs advertised in Austin jumped 19.7% in December 2007 compared with December 2006. Nationally, that percentage was just 6%.

With urban growth, positive housing markets, and now documented career opportunities, Austin confirms it’s place as the metro area for home owners and investors.

According to the Austin Business Journal, city council has approved the land use plan for the area around the Domain luxury shopping center by the year 2035. The plan includes mixed-use, pedestrian-friendly neighborhoods over a 2,300-acre area. With allowances to 15 and 30 stories, the density will rival downtown’s. Check out http://austin.bizjournals.com/austin/ for further information!

As fears continue over America’s rocky real estate market and mortgage crisis, some good news is on the horizon for our community. According to a CNNMoney.com article by Paul Kaihla, a new study lists 10 metropolitan areas which seem to be shunning the market norms during this tumultuous time. Of course, Austin made the list.
The study, conducted by Business 2.0, working with Moody’s Economy.com, shows projections for Austin’s real estate growth potential over the next two years. While most markets are expected to continue to decline for at least another year, the listed 10 are expected to see growth of 4-7%.
High paying jobs, generally young and educated residents, and comparably low median house prices make Austin one of the premier places to live and work. While San Francisco home prices have stagnated since 2005, Austin’s have enjoyed a 6% growth.
With the median home price still under $200,000, Austin has established itself as a real estate investor’s dream. And with these new projections, those investors can also look forward to 4.7% growth by the end of 2009.
