I had the unique pleasure the other night at El Arroyo, out in Bee Caves, of listening to the group Zeegrass. Comprised of rockers from Russia, these guys really knew their american music, and played a sopulful, funky, sometimes bluesy catalog of songs…including some pop standards, too! They really got the dinner crowd bouncing around in their seats when the pulled out the Balalaika..a tradtional Russian instrument, sort-of a cross between a ukelele and a guitar…and started to pick and pluck their way into a frenzy!
Lead singer Zhenya really knows how to sing, and Sash, his counterpart on bass was durable, engaging, and fun to watch.
Boy I love Austin…and really enjoy finding talent such as Zeegrass! When I chatted with them during a break and aksed them what brought them to Austin, they said…"where else would we be than the Live Music Capital of the World?"
Ya gotta love capitalism!
