Seaholm Project in Austin

The City of Austin is redeveloping the Seaholm Power plant and surrounding property.  If the proposed deal is accepted next month the development group  would pay more than 98 million dollars and the city would contribute an additional 18 million dollars.

The project will include a 315 space parking garage, streets, utilities and public plazas. There would also be a 22-story hotel, a condominium tower, and a two story office and retail building.

The Seaholm Power Plant was built in the 1950′s and operational until  1996 when it was decommissioned.  Because of its historic status, this project promises exciting character and architectural interests for its residents. The plant sits on 8 acres and overlooks Lady Bird Lake and will not be an easy renovation project for the 136,000 square-foot art deco, historic building.

Planned improvements for this massive structure include adding restrooms, elevators and modern electrical, heating and cooling system.

Once the redevelopment is approved and construction begins it is expected to be completed by 2011.
