McKinney Falls State Park in Austin Texas

Austin Texas offers endless recreational opportunities for outdoor lovers and McKinney Falls State Park is no exception.  This beautiful park is located in Travis County just 13 miles southeast of the State Capitol. It offers 744 acres of outdoor recreation and has been open to the public since 1976.

McKinney Falls offers camping, hiking, biking, picnicking, fishing, swimming, bird watching, photography and wildlife observation. The wildlife that can be found in the park is white-tailed deer, raccoon, armadillos, squirrels and lots of birds.  The park also offers other points of interest such as the preserved ruins of the original homestead, paved trails, dining hall and an amphitheater.

The Park is named in honor of Thomas F. McKinnney one of Austin’s first colonists who became very prominent in the area as a breeder of race horses complete with his own stable and private race track.
