Green Builders, Inc. will be building 2,000 houses in Georgetown to have as little environmental impact as possible, according to the American-Statesman. They will offer 15 floor plans, and all of which will feature rain-harvesting, energy-conserving heating and cooling, and recyled and renewable materials.
The homes are set to be built over the course of the next 6-8 years, with some already nearing completion. The builder has chosen to build as many homes as possible facing north and south to cut down on sun exposure. Not only does recycled lumber and local masonry minimize environmental impact today, but the 50-60% energy savings will continue.
Other new developments are also embracing the green building trend, including the Mueller Airport redevelopment, of which your Realty Pro Team is proud to be a part. All Mueller homes are required to meet a minimum rating of three-stars by Austin Energy’s Green Building Program.
These areas are an indication of the trend of community-centric development utilizing renewable resources. Because of the centralized designs, residents are further encouraged to support the environment by walking or biking daily to local employment, schools, and shopping venues.
