The Yellow Bike Project of Austin is a community supported, All volunteer , non-profit program that aims to provide human-powered bicycles to the people of Austin. It also organizes and runs a community bike shop, and offers educational programs to both children and adults. By offering bicycles to the public, The Yellow Bile Project hopes to limit traffic congestion and a safe and sustainable alternative to gasoline-fueled vehicles. The project focuses on cleaner air, land and water within the city limits as well as encouraging people to be active and exercise in their community. Since 1997 the Yellow Bike Project has been helpung to get people out on their bikes and out of their cars.
The Yellow Bike Project also targets children and those without the means of purchasing a bike and helps them acquire one.
Currently, there are over 110 bike collectives active in the united States and Canada.
