AUSTIN’S ECONOMY THE BEST

Moody’s
Economy.com Inc., an
independent economic research firm, reports that Austin, Texas officially holds
the top spot of the metropolitan areas tracked for economic vitality. According
to the Austin
Business Journal  article, the
index has been published since 2001 and evaluates trends, risks, employment,
average incomes, productivity, migration, and costs. In the last index
published, just in March 2007, the Austin-Round Rock Metropolitan Statistical
Area was ranked seventh.

Austin’s
number one ranking is significant for a number of reasons. First, the index
ranked nearly 400 major metropolitan areas, further reiterating Austin as a
business stronghold. Second, according to Betty Voights, executive director of
the Capital Area Council of Governments,
the ranking enforces “a strong message about our [region's] commitment to
working together toward regional success.”

As a
community, Austin should be proud of our business and economic vitality. The
