While the rest of the country posts job losses and cuts, the Austin area of central Texas added more than 6,200 private sector jobs this year.  The US Bureau of Labor Statistics ranked Austin, Texas with the 10th biggest gain in metro employment in the nation.

As the rest of the country is crippled by a financial meltdown in the stock market, job market and sub-prime market, Austin is showing a great amount of resiliency and confidence.

Only one-fifth of the country’s 100 largest cities were able to add any jobs at all.  All four of Texas’ major metropolitan area ranked in the Top 10 of job creation: Houston, Dallas-Fort-Worth, Austin and San Antonio. 

Houston is up 42,400 jobs

Dallas-Fort Worth is up 35,100 jobs    

San Antonio is up 11,700 jobs

Austin is up 6,200 jobs
