Austin Museum of Art Unveils New Addition.

The Austin Museum of Art is planning a new museum and 30-story office tower. Plans for the new additions were unveiled earlier this week for the new 23 million dollar building and  soaring office tower.  So far the museum has raised $14 million dollars.  It has partnered with the Houston-based development firm Hines Interest LP.  The Austin Museum of Art has owned the block at Fourth and Guadalupe Street for years and will now sell half of the prime downtown lot to Hines.

The museum and tower will be designed by Pelli Clarke of Pelli Architects and will be 40,000 square feet with three floors of exhibition and office space. The entrance will open onto Republic square Park. It will feature exhibition, educational activity areas and a sculpture garden.  The museum and the tower would be separate buildings but would be connected by an enclosed walkway.
