The volume in Austin home sales dropped a bit in June compared with a year ago but the change is neither catastrophic nor unexpected. The expiration of the home buyer tax credit was expected to affect the sales volume of Austin real estate, but the drop in June sales was only 4% compared with June 2009.
Summer in Austin Texas typically sees a small drop in home sales. Last June was the height of the first time home
buyer tax credit and the biggest month of real estate sales in Austin in 2009. The small decrease in volume compared with a year ago appears even smaller when able to examine historical data and compare it with what was going on during the middle of our great recession.
A positive for Austin real estate is that the average number of days that it takes to sell a home has decreased. The average days on market (DOM) has been steadily decreasing for six months now.
