Alcon Entertainment strikes gold with “The Blind Side”

Austin’s very own Sandra Bullock stars in this season’s “The Blind Side” and it was one of the most heartwarming, uplifiting movies I’ve seen in ages and I highly recommend it. Go see this movie.

What does this Memphis-based movie have to do with me or FineAustinLiving, you ask?

Well, the production company that made the film, Alcon Entertainment, happens to be the last company I worked for in the motion picture industry before I retired and moved to Austin.  The producers of the film Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson are two of the most talented, energetic, and wonderful people I was ever associated with in the motion picture industry, and I am thrilled that they seem to have a real winner on their hands!

The film I co-produced for them (and distributed by Warner Brothers) was a film called “Lost and Found” starring David Spade, Martin Sheen and Sophie Marceau. Alcon made the process the most enjoyable experience I ever had working on a motion picture from start to finish, and I know that the current group of filmmakers had the same experience.

Alcon was founded by Federal Express Chairman & CEO Fred Smith (no relation – darn!), and it’s no surprise this film is set in his homebase of Memphis, Tenn. Tim McGraw co-stars as Sandra Bullock’s husband in the film, and does a great job (I’ve never seen him act in a motion picture before!). All of the leading characters give terrific, memorable performances, and if you’re a fottball junkie you’ll see quite a few recognizeable characters playing themselves in the film!

So on the FAL movie rating score, I give it 4 Golden Paintbrushes.  Go see this film and enjoy.
